Why Thematica AI exists

Built by a researcher who felt the gap between rigorous qualitative analysis and the time researchers actually have for it.

Founder

Abdulai Jawo Bah is a global mental health researcher. His experience conducting qualitative research in global health and mental health settings shaped the thinking behind Thematica AI — software built to make rigorous analysis more approachable, without displacing the researcher's judgment.

Thematica AI started from a practical frustration: qualitative coding is slow and repetitive work, but the interpretation underneath it is exactly the part that shouldn't be automated away. That distinction is the basis for how the product is being designed.

The principle behind the product

AI supports the analysis. Researchers retain interpretive ownership. That sentence is less a tagline than a design constraint — it shapes which features we build and how we build them.
