Framework Method analysis.
Interpretation stays yours.
IndexQDA is Thematica AI's first product: a qualitative analysis workspace built around the Framework Method, where AI suggests, you decide, and your participants' data stays with your institution.
The demo runs entirely in your browser with sample data. Nothing you enter is sent to us.

Seven stages, one native matrix
IndexQDA follows the Framework Method as Gale and colleagues set it out in 2013. The stages are how you move through a study, and the case-by-category matrix is the main screen, not an export.
- Transcription
- Familiarisation
- Coding
- Developing the framework
- Applying the framework
- Charting
- Interpreting
Every cell links to the participant's exact words
Each summary in the matrix carries its quotations with line, page and time. One click opens the passage or plays the moment in the recording. Summaries and interpretations are kept apart, and "not discussed" is never confused with "not yet charted".
AI suggests. You decide, one item at a time.
Nothing AI-made enters your codebook, framework or matrix without your decision. There is no "accept all".
- AcceptEvery quotation is first checked word for word against your data.
- EditRefine the label, definition or summary before it counts.
- RejectDismiss it. Nothing is applied automatically.
De-identified before any AI reads a word
IndexQDA proposes redactions for names, places and identifiers on your own device, and an analyst reviews every one. Consent is recorded down to a single passage, and the software enforces it: refused material is never sent to AI or included in quote banks.
Works on a laptop with no internet. Teams sync on your own server.
Projects live on each analyst's device and on one small server your institution runs. AI and transcription use only services your institution chooses, never a commercial AI cloud. There is no telemetry, and updates are signed and can be installed offline.
Two languages, side by side
Keep the original transcript, for example in Krio, aligned with its English translation. Codes, quotes and linguistic memos stay with the language they were made in.
Outputs for papers and reviewers
Matrix exports to Excel and Word, a citable codebook, quote banks, methods text with COREQ and SRQR checklists, and REFI-QDA files for NVivo, ATLAS.ti and MAXQDA.
From a single researcher
to a national research system
IndexQDA is built to feel approachable for a student on a first interview study, and credible for an ethics committee or ministry that needs to trust how it works.
Academic & postgraduate research
Theses, dissertations and faculty-led studies using the Framework Method, with independent coding rounds and agreement statistics for teams.
Global health, mental health & healthcare research
Interviews and focus groups across settings and languages, including field teams that work offline and data that must stay in the country.
Ministries, NGOs & evaluators
Programme evaluation and implementation research that must stand up to ethics review, with an audit trail of every decision.

Frequently asked questions
Thematica AI is the company. IndexQDA is its first product, built for the Framework Method. Tools for other qualitative methods are planned on the same foundations.
In the online demo, everything stays in your browser's storage on your device; we never receive it. In a real installation, projects live on your analysts' devices and on your institution's own server. IndexQDA never sends data to a commercial AI service.
No. AI suggests codes, themes and summaries, each with a quotation checked word for word against your data. You accept, edit or reject every suggestion individually. AI is switched off in every new project until a lead switches it on.
IndexQDA imports and exports REFI-QDA (.qdpx) project files, the open exchange standard those programs support. Our files are checked by automated tests and independent readers; testing them inside each of those programs is still to come.
You can try the demo now. Early access opens with our pilot partners, and prices will be published at launch. Joining the waitlist is the best way to hear first.
We only collect what you submit through the waitlist or contact forms — your name, email, and optional role or research area — to notify you about early access. See our Privacy Policy for details.
